Spending Labor Day In The Garden

Coffee in the garden is a great idea-designaddictmom
Coffee anyone:-)? It is no secret that I love nature and I'm truly so inspired by it. It is also where I go to
quiet my mind.  Whether I am pulling weeds, picking veggies, or having some coffee, there is always a sense of calm that overcomes me- it's so therapeutic.  Since putting so much work into the space, we've all been enjoying it! This is where you could find me most of the time during this Labor Day weekend.

Lovely yellow outdoor table set provides seating in the garden-designaddictmom
I bought this yellow foldable outdoor table set a bit over a year ago and it has been left outside, but held up so beautifully!  I might buy another in a different color-maybe this mint green one...

Beautiful and lush vegetable garden-designaddictmom
Over the weekend, I pulled lots of weeds and fertilized the remaining vegetables.
This year I planted chile peppers for the first time and now I have so many! I usually plant what we call scotch bonnet peppers known as habaneros, so I might've gone overboard with the selection of hot peppers! You know us Jamaicans love their spicy food:-)

I am looking forward to the cool down so I don't have to water the garden as much. I had placed mulch down in the beds before we left for vacation and that has definitely helped, but nevertheless, the cool down will be well received.

I hope you're soaking up the last bits of this long weekend. Guess what I'll be doing today?-yep you guessed it; more gardening and plant maintenance. Happy Monday friends. xx

It's Summer Time Y'all!

Outdoor patio brimming with plants and flowers-designaddictmom
How is everyone? I don't know about you, but I am so happy for the warmer weather and nature is showing off right now; greenery abounds!  We're officially on Summer break-yay!! and most of my time is now spent in the garden. I was thrilled to see that the thyme and some other herbs I planted last year survived the Winter and are thriving. Even the kale made a comeback! Now to this picture above, do you remember when I redid the patio? It's still holding up and I haven't had to repaint the door at all. You can see what it looked like before below.  For this project, I extended the concrete area, then painted it with outdoor Porch and Patio paint from Home Depot. I also painted the screen door in that pretty coral color. Are you working on any outdoor projects?

These Boob Planters are Awesome

These Boob Planters are Awesome- design addict mom

How are you doing? We are officially on Summer break, and I have been busy with all things garden. I recently came across these boob planters and I love them! What a fun idea!

Sonia Rose of Rosegrown is the creative behind these "booblicious" pots. I visited her shop to grab a couple ( they are referred to as Goddessware) but not surprisingly, they are all sold out, so I am anxiously awaiting a restock.

I Made A Simple Floral Arrangement With Greenery From Our Yard

I Made A Simple Floral Arrangement With Greenery From Our Yard- design addict mom
It's that time of year when the Jasmine trees in our back yard are covered in white blooms and their sweet scent permeate the air. I love the scent so much that I wanted to bring a bit inside, so I grabbed my garden shears and cut a couple branches from one of the Jasmine trees to make a simple floral arrangement.

I placed it on the kitchen table and you get a whiff of the scent as you walk by plus it pops beautifully against the pink colored walls.

One Last Summer Soirée.

Outdoor Entertaining.
Almost everyone seems to be engaging in Fall conversations while I am here thinking, "I am going to squeeze the life out of what's left of Summer." After all, it IS still Summer and it sure still feels like it.  I've said it a number of times that we basically live outside during the Summer, so today I am sharing what i refer to as One Last Summer Soirée...

Basil in the Garden
It brings me such joy to be able to eat what we grow and boy have we been eating lots of basil. We have so much of it!

Basil Pesto Recipe:2 cups gently packed fresh basil leaves. 2 large garlic cloves, roughly chopped. 1/2 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. 1/3 cup walnuts. 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper. 2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil. Blend together in food processor or blender.

Garden Walls.

plant herbs in hanging terracotta pots

Is it too early to be posting about Garden related things? I hope not! I believe we have 53 days until Spring and I can't wait! I have always been fascinated with garden walls/wall gardens. They are a great solution if there isn't space for horizontal gardening. They add interest and depending on the foliage used, can be great for  providing privacy.
