Making Bold Moves with Navy: Before and After

This bold navy color makes a great backdrop for all the art and plants-design addict mom
I recently had the pleasure of sampling paint color from Aphrochic's Brooklyn in Color paint collection with Colorhouse.  The paint collection is a low odor and superior performance, eco friendly line of paints which is usually a prerequisite for me and the paints I work with, but especially now because I am expecting.

I decided to choose the paint color, Navy Yard  from the Aphrochic collection to use an accent color on this wall of art. Above is a before pic for reference.

However, although I was drooling over the color because it's an absolutely gorgeous color,  I had to make sure it work in the space as it is. These existing aesthetics traits that already existed in the room definitely sealed the deal:

The white trim: The existing white trim would allow the navy to pop and we all know navy and white is a classic color combination.

The furniture: I was actually day dreaming about the brown mid century dresser against the navy wall before I even painted it. I just knew it would work because brown and navy is such a delicious combination!

Art: All the art from the gallery wall would undoubtedly pop against the navy and it sure does

Since it is such a deep color, I had to apply almost 3 coats to ensure even coverage, but the paint was a joy to work with.  I loved how smooth it was. Also depending on the time of day, it could almost pass as black. I am very pleased with how the results. xx

An Inviting Home with Splashes of Color

Though I hardly have any white walls in my home, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy seeing it in other homes. I've blogged numerous tours where white walls were the backdrop but they were always more than just white walls; usually they are enveloped in various textures, meticulously layered, and like this one brimming with splashes of color via the art and other accessories.

A bit over 2,300 square feet, this beautiful home is located in Hellerup.  I seem to have a thing for homes in Hellerup as I recently showed you another stunning home  there.  With an eclectic aesthetic and an effortless mix of styles, this home beckons you in to have a seat and relax without fear of touching anything.

Best Plants for The Bathroom

Best Plants for The Bathroom- design addict mom
It’s no secret that I love plants and I have become somewhat of a plant hoarder. I have some sprinkled in my bathroom, flanking my bathtub,  and they most certainly make my bathroom feel like an oasis. I’ve noticed that more people are placing plants in their bathrooms and I am loving this trend! The humidity levels of a bathroom environment is a great thriving environment for most plants.

Although most tropical loving plants thrive on low natural light, it’s still a great idea to check the lighting requirement for each plant before placing them in the bathroom. As mentioned before there are many options for low light loving plants. Plants like the spider plants, heart-leaf philodendrons, Boston ferns, ZZ plants, aloe vera, bamboo, begonia(to name a couple) prefer low levels of natural light. Plants like azaleas, the jade plant, gardenias, and air plants like bright and sunny areas and are perfect in bathrooms with windows. If there are no windows in your bathrooms, make sure that your bathroom fixtures use fluorescent light bulbs, as fluorescent produce mimic the the light that the sun produces.

Placing plants in your bathroom not only provides a calming and spa like retreat for you, but plants also help to eliminate toxins from the air, absorb excess moisture , and thereby improving quality of life. xx

Baby News

Baby News- design addict mom
I was tentative to share on here before... It's been almost a year to the date that I had a miscarriage and I am still very paranoid but nonetheless, bursting at the seams with joy! I've already shared on Instagram(so you probably already know), but I've been dying to share here... we're expecting baby number 3! The boys are over the moon as is all of our family.

We found out the other day that it's a girl! Yippeeeeee!!

Plant and light filled = cozy

My posts here have suffered a bit because not only have I lacked the energy, I've been soaking up the Summer with the boys. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things soon as I have lots to share with you including my plan for the nursery. xx
