Before and After: My Colourful Wingback Chair

A bit later than originally scheduled, I finally received my thrift ed wing back chair that I originally showed you during the ORC from the upholstery shop. I snapped these pics this morning.  I’m sure you’re not surprised that I went bold, but I surprised myself by going pink. Apparently I still have it in my system even though the kitchen got a good dosage. I’ve always wanted to experiment with the “two fabric look” and I got a chance to do so with this chair. I went with stripes on the outside and the solid pink and I just love it! The legs are chipped but I have no intention of refinishing(at least any time soon). I love the straight line of the base/legs because it/they add a modern flair.

The before and yes it was pink.

One Room Challenge: Week 5; The Styling Loot

Late post. Blame it on the little one who just turned two and thinks naps are obsolete…

Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the room to share today. After finally completing the painting, I turned my attention to looking/shopping/thrifting for “stuff” to use for styling. I recently bought that phone(above) from a thrift store because

I’ve always wanted to style with an orange phone. I spray painted it orange, but almost regretted it. It took forever to spray the cord and I still have touch ups to do. We’ll see how it fares in the bedroom…

I thrifted this bird and brass container. I paid less than $3 for both, and I intend to use them in some way in the room. I wished there was a pair of the birds as pairs are great feng shui…However,

i  do have these pair of beautiful birds! I have been searching for frames for them and haven’t been successful in finding frames that I love, so I will have to cough up the dollars to get them professionally framed…

another thrift find. I fell in love with the heart detail and gold details; perfect for the romantic and feng shui flair that I’m going for. I intend to spray it white and incorporate it in styling too.

More thrifted loot. I couldn’t resist these at all! I may not actually use it all in the bedroom, but they’re going somewhere in the house!

I bought this rug at my local Tuesday Mornings last week. Great texture and colour! Great price too. I foresee lots of sleepless nights since I’ll be working my butt off to get the room styled and ready for shooting. It’s a challenge when you have to do all that other Mommy stuff too. My Budget Friendly and Stylish Tablescape.

Simply put, one can entertain in style on any budget. I have been frequenting one of my local Goodwill stores of late because I realize that there are some amazing scores to be had there. For today’s post, we’ll look at a simple, but stylish tablescape showcasing all thrifted items from Goodwill.

I wanted to add some "bling" sprinkled with black for a somewhat glamorous look. I scored these vintage plates for $1.50 each. The knives with the black handles were approximately .50cents each.  The crystal candle holders were almost $2 each(definitely a score!). The vintage cups with the gold handles and cute floral design are my fave. Those were also under $2 each. I bought 4 of each item, because it’s a small scale get together.

Although I purchased my finds at a Goodwill store, do not despair if you don’t have one in your area. Usually most thrift stores will have a home ware section. Let’s keep it stylish and entertain on!. Blessings and happy weekend my friends. XX

Thrifted.

I purchased the lamp above for $1.87 at a Goodwill store recently. It swings in different position and the vintage appeal just beckoned to me. The lamp didn’t come with a shade(not sure if there was one originally). However, I like it without a shade.



The black tubular section was originally a creamish color, so I spray painted it black. I like the gold
and black combination more.I would love to get one of those cool looking vintage bulbs, but either way, it makes a great reading lamp. It was also a great steal; can't beat that!

AND

a few of you may have already seen this handmade blanket on Instagram. I also scored that at Goodwill  for less that $3. It’s crotched using a multi -colored  striped pattern. I knew it was made with lots of love and undoubtedly took a long time to complete because it is a great size. I love it!

Baby Ian seems to love it too? Not sure if he’s smelling it or snuggling… Blessings and one love. XX

My Thrift Finds from this Weekend.

I went to Pittsboro and Sanford in North Carolina to hunt for hidden treasures this weekend. This post features a few of my lucky finds. Those two antique brass candle holders were scored for $5 each. I know-lucky me?? You know brass/gold is so hot right now too!! They are also in very good condition too; a few nicks here and there but nothing a little polishing can’t fix. Plus, nicks add character.

I scored this vintage orange mushroom stool for $25; currently in Baby Ian’s nursery. However, I am thinking of ‘borrowing’ it for myself. I just love it!  How was your weekend? Did anyone go thrifting?  Blessings and happy Monday my friends. XX

Liquor, Mags, and Books on Wheels: A DIY.

Since I found my chair and ottoman, I’ve been frequenting the same thrift store to see what I can find. I recently found this table and gave it some TLC last weekend. This is what it looked like before:



As you can see it was not so good looking. With a price tag of $5.00, I figured it was worth the risk to see if I could restore to it to the potential image that I conjured up in my mind. To tackle the project, I first made a trip to Lowes and bought


two cans of premium Rust-o-leum high gloss white spray paint. I already had that spray attachment pictured. It makes it easier to spray paint and I have more control over the process. The Minwax Lacquer clear satin finish and sealer was purchased at Walmart. However, I am sure one can get that at Lowes or Home Depot too. I chose spray painting over painting (using a brush)because the piece is small and there is less mess and less cleaning up involved. I want to also add that I lightly sanded the piece and cleaned it thoroughly prior to painting. I didn’t prime it because I purchased a Premium Spray paint, but I would recommend priming prior too.

I also purchased new casters since the piece was missing one. Those were purchased from Lowes.

I am pleased with how it turned out and I love its versatility. I can use it to store my books/magazines and also, I can wheel my liquor from room to room. Gotta love that! If you have a Harris Teeter(those of you residing in the States)near you, they are having a sale on the Cavit Pinot Grigio!. As you can see, I’m going to need another bottle soon…



I purposely chose those casters/wheels with a hint of copper because I love how they contrast with the white.  This thrift find was definitely worth the $5 splurge, don’t you think? I am loving the weather right now, so this weekend is sure to be a great one! I hope it will be the same for you too!! Enjoy! XX 

My Thrift Rocker and Ottoman for the Nursery.

Before

One day in early December, I went to the paint store to purchase some paint. While leaving the paint store, I spotted a warehouse type building across the street that had a sign advertising used furniture and that it was opened to the public. Somehow, I found myself steering my vehicle in that direction.  When I got there, I wasn’t even parked in the correct parking lot and convinced the guy who I guess was “manning” that area (which is where pick ups are done) to let me stay where I was and that I would be in and out in no time. Looking back, I realize that the “powers that be” were working and that I was about to fulfill my destiny.

I went into the warehouse and zoomed in straight to this rocker/swivel chair and ottoman. I had to literally climb over things to get to them. I saw $40 (for both pieces) and although I hadn’t tested the durability of the frame decided that it was too great a deal to pass up. A gentleman who worked there pried both pieces from the corner that they were hiding in(just waiting on me), and I daintily sat on the edge of the chair and performed a rocking motion which was my feeble attempt at testing the durability of the chair. You see, I was wearing short capris and didn’t want my skin touching the fabric . I’m sure you would do the same thing so stop laughing! Since then, I’ve placed a small sheet in my vehicle for moments like these….

Some Background Info

Ok, I did not have a rocker in Zion’s nursery. At our previous home, our home office was transformed into Zion’s nursery and the sleeper couch that was in the office remained in the nursery.  We didn’t have the space to place it else where in our house anyway. So, on that couch was where I nursed Zion, bonded with him, slept, etc.  After a while, I didn’t miss not having a rocker.
However, when I became pregnant with Baby Ian, I found myself obsessed with getting a rocker. I somehow convinced myself that it is one of those quintessential items that must be in a nursery. Thus, my quest to get one of these at the price of almost $1000.  If I wanted the ottoman I would have to pay another $300 or so dollars. Now, do you understand why I said it was destined for me to find that chair and ottoman above. What? You think I’m being melodramatic. Come on $40 versus over $1000! Maybe you’ll be convinced if you see what the pieces  look like now…

After

Reupholstered in special order orange fabric, the chair and ottoman fit perfectly into Baby Ian’s nursery.  I have been happily rocking, swiveling, and nursing since.  Do tell, what do you think?  Also, stay tuned for another major nursery reveal next week regarding a collaboration with a very creative blogger friend!   XX
