A Deep Loss that Took Us Back Home to Jamaica

Lush and Beautiful Resort in Negril,Jamaica-design addict mom
A loss of a loved one is never easy and although my mother-in law would've recently turned 90, it doesn't make it any less painful realizing that she is no longer here. Nonetheless, I do take solace knowing that she lived a long and full life and was deeply loved. We affectionately referred to her as Grandma Birdie, always sporting a twinkle in her eyes with the most contagious giggle/laughter. Grandma Birdie has touched countless lives and will always be remembered in the fondest of ways. I especially am grateful of the time we shared and that she was able to bless of the children's lives with her presence.  Though she lived in the United States, it was her wish and there was never any doubt that she would be laid to rest amongst her ancestors and other  family members in her beloved home district of Trelawny, Jamaica. Hence, the bit of quiet here on the blog as we prepared for travel to Jamaica with the children.

She received the most wonderful send off, very deserving of  the amazing matriarch and community servant that she was. I know she must've been beaming with pride. Whilst this was undoubtedly a bittersweet trip, Jamaica and its beauty has a way of salvaging ones wounds and we embraced that with open arms. It was the children's very first time here and observing them enjoying the beauty of Jamaica, one would think they were born here. They were right at home.  Here are some pics from our trip.  These were all snapped with an Iphone.

Morocco Dreaming.

Lovely courtyard at Hotel Riad, Marrakech. Photographer Jerome Mondiere
I am feeling a bit of wanderlust today and Morocco has always been up there on the list of places I'd love to visit. Morocco oozes bohemian flair and I know i'd be right at home amongst all the saturated colors! The greenery, the people, the architecture and details,  I could go on and on. Some day Morocco, some day... This space above is by photographer, Jerome Mondiere at Hotel Riad.

11 Global Inspired Spaces That Will Make You Swoon.

Global styles in interiors have become increasingly popular. People love to decorate with their travel finds and they make for great conversation pieces.

Global styles in interiors have become increasingly popular. People love to decorate with their travel finds and they make for great conversation pieces.
As a military household that has led quite the nomadic lifestyle, we have many pieces from places like Italy, Germany, Spain, Africa, and also pieces from the many places my husband has been to during his deployments. Works of art, handmade pieces, bold patterned exotic rugs, and textiles are sprinkled throughout our home and their presence has given our home a global flair. Today's post showcases 11 swoon worthy global inspired spaces.

Nowadays, you don't need to hop on a plane or travel overseas to add a bit of global flavor to your home. I've thrifted a couple of global pieces right here. Etsy and Ebay are also other great sources for global finds. Happy Wednesday everyone! xx

Singita Lebombo Lodge in South Africa.

relaxing with a view outdoor

Located in Africa in the central part of Kruger National Park, which in turn is nestled between the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa, Singita Lebombo Lodge is paradise especially for the nature lover. Traveling to Africa is high on my wish list and it would be amazing to stay here...

Off the Radar in Taroudant, Morocco.

Beautiful plants and outdoor space in Taroudant, Morocco/ designaddictmom
Yesterday I went searching for Spring via the interwebs because it decided to play a cruel prank and disappear. It was freezing! I happened up on this gem of market town called  Taroudant, located in the the Southern part of Morocco.  Unlike Marrakesh, Taroudant is not a hotspot for tourists and so is off the radar. The article via the NYTimes shows us some colorful, tropical,  and most definitely dripping with Spring and Summer snaps. I feel warmer already!
