An Accent Wall Update with HGTV Home By Sherwin Williams.

I am a big advocate of your home being a reflection of YOU, and for me that translates to expressing myself by unabashedly incorporating colors and patterns. One of the quickest ways to refresh a space is with paint and my home is the perfect example of this. However, I am often asked, “Well, what if I’m  a bit timid about color and don’t want to paint an entire room? How do I inject color into a space…?” Besides incorporating colorful accessories like pillows, rugs, etc., painting an accent wall is a great way to bring color into a space. Word on the interwebs regarding interior trends has stated that accent walls will soon be uncool or not trendy, but around these parts, we break free from trendy expectations and embrace self-expression. Therefore, if you want to paint an accent wall, do so. 

An accent wall is a single wall in a room that is painted a different color than the rest. Today, we’re going to look at how I updated the above accent wall with a color by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams in their Showcase paint, available only at Lowe’s. 

This accent wall in the boys’ room was created to showcase their art and while the blue is a wonderful color, it has been a couple years since I painted that color and I felt it was time for a refresh! So off to Lowe’s I went to choose a color from HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams. 

With the help of the boys, we looked through a couple colors from the collection and settled on a delicious green color called Kilkenny (HGSW1282) from the Color Pizzazz Color Collection

Always be sure to prep the surface to be painted first. I lightly sanded, cleaned, and primed the wall before painting. I don’t typically tape the edges of the wall; instead, I use an angled brush with a steady hand to cut in. If you’re not yet comfortable doing that, then you should tape the edges before cutting in. After cutting in, then I paint using a Purdy roller – the right applicator is key to achieving a great finish.

Solid walls that don’t have windows or doors make for great accent walls. Color is affected by other adjoining colors and light, so keep that in mind when choosing the color for your accent wall. In the picture above, you can see that the accent wall gets lots of natural light, and since green and blue are analogous colors, the bold green accent wall goes beautifully with the rest of the room painted in a light blue. 

That green is a delightful backdrop for the art and the boys love the new color! Do you have any accent walls in your home? Crib No More

 

I reluctantly took apart the crib a week or so ago as it was time. Cheyenne stopped using it ages ago and only climbed in to jump. I guess putting away the crib is my way of acknowledging and mildly accepting that our baby is growing up and is now an active toddler who could use that space in her room more efficiently. 

Though the crib is packed away, we don't plan on parting with it. It signifies so much-but most importantly this was the crib we bought for our rainbow baby, our miracle baby, so yeah, we're hoarding the crib in our attic.

We love to snuggle and read as a part of our bedtime routine, so I created this cozy fort using this very cute teepee. Of course, you can't have cozy without twinkly lights. 

Cheyenne loves it so mission accomplished!:-) xx

A Bold and Decadent Christmas Tour

This is my kind of Christmas decor; bold and colorful. This home was designed by Julia Thompson of Frank Interiors and  I spotted on Living Etc which is one of my favorite magazine/resource for decor inspiration, especially at Christmas time! This absolutely stunning home is a Victorian masterpiece and is located in South London. Let the drool fest begin...

I love the use of the pampas grass on the mantel. It reminds me of that time I spray painted pampas grass for our guest bedroom.

Add a Dose of Cheer with Some Rainbow

Sometimes a little rainbow motif is all it takes to add immediate cheer to our lives and spaces.  These 12 spaces provide great examples of this. I love how the addition of the rainbow motif above enlivens the space (source) and add contrast to the white walls. 

A great way to add cheer and fill that blank space behind the wall is with a lovely rainbow rug like the one pictured. Check out the rest of these great examples below.

 Naturally since I love the rainbow motif so much and since Cheyenne is a rainbow baby, the rainbow is sprinkled throughout her nursery as you can see above... Rainbow art on wall is by Tess Guinery. 

This Blabla pillow is one of my faves and if you look closely in some of the other spaces, you will see that others seems to love it as much as I do. xx
