Happy Mother's Day: Matters of the Heart

Before Zion was born, I was told by Doctors that I wouldn't be able to conceive. At the time, I was undergoing a series of tests to diagnose the issue of my severe abdominal pains. I was told I had cysts... Anyway, when I was told that I wouldn't be able to conceive, for some reason, I didn't panic, in fact, I didn't embrace it as truth. Fast forward, Zion was born. I was so elated that when I decided to start a blog, I first named it Zion and Design. However, I don't think Ian would've approved. Design Addict Mom was chosen instead. 

I've embraced motherhood with all of my being and sometimes I briefly think about how I was told I wouldn't be able to have these beautiful human beings. Happy Mother's Day to you beautiful Mamas and if you're trying to conceive, there's always hope! xx

Try as we might to be amongst the early birds, some of us still always succumb to the last minute woes. But fear not! You still have time to get your Mom something special...

Books:

I have three on my list this year because personally, I love all three, but you can choose a fave.

Justina Blakeney's The New Bohemian book is total bliss. Seriously.

Gabrielle Blair's Design Mom: How to Live with Kids is simply perfect. I love her perspective on living with children and the great tips she includes in her book.

Our own Kristy Harvey of Design Chic(1'm so proud of her!) Dear Carolina book tells a beautiful and heartwarming story! Perfect read during Mom's "me time."

Flowers:

Chocolate:

This one will probably cost you $0! Many of us have beautiful mason jars and paper around our home. Cut out some strips from paper, and write compliments to Mom on them. So fun, right!?

Tips for An Inexpensive and Lovely Outdoor Mother's Day Brunch.

How are you celebrating Mother's Day? I will undoubtedly be spending time with the boys and since the weather has been so splendid, it will probably be spent outdoors. Here is a wonderful and inexpensive way to have a light brunch and some outdoor fun with things you might already have in your home.

For this picnic brunch, I grabbed a few of their favorite books, toys, beverage, apples,  blankets, pillows, lanterns, and made our little tent like creation using curtains and a sheet. These are all items I already owned. The blankets were thrift store finds.

A crate came in handy to use as a place for our refreshments.

The lanterns were from Oriental Trading Co., but the Dollar Store is also a great place to check for lanterns that are affordable

The oil lamp has citronella oil in it for those pesky mosquitos in case they surfaced.

Later in the evening. The set up was so beautiful against the evening sky. Happy weekend everyone! xx

Thank you everyone for your sincere and warm wishes on my announcement(below)! I could feel the love. Today is Mother’s Day and I wanted to pop in to say Happy Mother’s Day to all and if you’re not a Mommy, well Happy Mother’s Day to your Mom.

I think it’s safe to say that any Mom wouldn’t mind to getaway here. Such a tranquil place. These pictures show the Barcelo Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa, located near the city of Alicante in southeastern Spain. Breathtaking place, isn't it?
