Adding height with books.

I love this work area featured in the above picture. I grabbed it from my tumblr to share today because it oozes inspiration and creativity.  I love the display board(i’m not sure what material it’s made from though), the whimsical lamp and i adore the rustic element of the table against the ruffles of the fabric. However, what really caught my eye is the use of the books as a stand for the lamp. Doing this not only elevates the lamp to add balance, but it also brings your eyes up. I actually do this all the time in my own home. Books lend themselves to a myriad of uses and they still remain aesthetically pleasing no matter how they’re being used.

random 012random 008 I probably should have tidied up my area a bit before i took these pictures of my home. The second picture shows my use of magazines as a stand for the lamp in my very small office:-). This is a closet in my home that i converted into an office a few years ago. I will do a separate post about my little office soon… So my friends, do you use books or magazines as a stand for lamps in your own home? Do share.

P.S. Thank you all for the warm anniversary wishes and i did speak with dearest husband too! He also read the post and adored it. I’m totally blushing now:-). Muah to all of you!

Stacey,
first of all, I love the office.. how beautiful and so tidy!
I do use coffee table books to elevate objects. In my foyer, I have a large round table, which I have displayed some coffee table books, which I have arranged some vases, and larger object on them.

Have a great day!

Oh WOW, that closet-turned-office -- just love it so!! Brilliant use of a smaller space (now I can't wait for the post about it :)). The books for height look is very fresh-pretty-playful at once :) Thank you for sharing this!

Your clean desk kicks my extremely messy desk's rear end. I barely have 6" without stuff on it. I don't use books this way but my daughter does - mostly because she always has so many around!

i should make a good use out of them - b/c i seem to 'collect' SO many magazines and coffee table books!

what a clever use of that closet!! and you can just shut it all away when it's time to put work aside. brilliant!

hmmm. my books are mostly confined to their shelves, however i do try to stack them and put a photo or little doo dad on top, to add some visual interest.

i love the idea of giving a small table lamp heighth this way, however living with two tiny beasts intent on destroying everything means this is probably impossible for me to do. :P such is life. ;)

Stacey, I really admire your use of colour in your home - that turquoise wall is something else - YUM! Fun how you can close it all off with the doors, too.

That issue of Domino on the top of the pile is the only issue I have ever read in print (it wasn't published in the UK - booo) but isn't it a great one?! I love the decorating in your 20's bit...obviously!

Finally, I agree - decorating with books adds height and warmth!

I always wanted a desk in a closet. Your house looks very warm.
I use books to add height. My lamps are usually too small and need a boost. Congrats on your anniversary.

Hi Stacey, yes, that looks like a wonderful, creative spot. I never thought of that idea about the lamp so thank you for that. Your space isn't messy at all, looks very well organised and fantastic that you can just "shut it out" too... Very clever. I've just posted how I make my Flotsam Friend dolls and my workspace. Stop by if you're not too crazy busy. Kindest, Pruxxx

What amazingly sweet and inspiring place you created, Stacey, love it!
Your idea of books-for-height is great. Love the big CHANEL!
Have a happy Tuesday. It's almost bedtime in my part of the world .^_^.

Such a cute desk area. Love how you could just hide it away if it were messy (like mine has a tendency to be). We have books all over our house and large piles tend to grow so I do end up using them for resting cups. Not the same thing as doing it intentionally though!

Your home is stunning! Love the blue color pop! You have such amazing taste! I use books in decor a lot, and have done exactly this, stack books under a lamp to raise it up. Lovely post!

Great idea! Have never thought of it before. Love books and interiormagzines. Now they´ll have a second use as well. How wonderful!
Love your little closet office. The shelves above the desk looks great and I bet they come to a lot of use. Storgage is everything. No area is too small if you have good storage soulutions. And how nice it must be to be able to shut the doors. I would love to have a little closet office just like yours! Very creative!

Oh I love that top workspace as well, very inspirational! But most inspiring is your workspace, fantastic!

I have piles of magazines which my lamp sits on next to my bed (just mentioned it today in fact) although it's not as decorative as it sounds just practical as I like reading in bed!
